Our Practitioners

Dr. Isabella Buirski (TCM)

Founder & Acupuncturist at Essential Acupuncture

I am a licensed Acupuncturist and Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine and my objective is to deliver a professional and effective service providing each of my patients with care, compassion and motivation towards better health.

I have a special interest in Women’s Health, Fertility and Pregnancy and am passionate about helping you achieve the best possible health with Chinese medicine, acupuncture and lifestyle advice. My other interests include pain conditions, stress relief and hormonal imbalances. I regularly attend professional seminars and clinical workshops and draw on Dr Richard Tan’s Balance method to assist with both physical and emotional dysfunction.

I believe that the human body is amazing at telling us if something is out of balance. I see the body as a healing machine and sometimes we just need to give it a gentle nudge to guide it in the right direction. My style of acupuncture is very gentle and all needles are of the best quality to provide a painless treatment.

I am a big believer in living a balanced lifestyle and when I am not at clinic you will find me doing a coastal walk, at pilates or reading a book on health and wellbeing.

My qualifications:

I graduated after 4 years of study from the Sydney Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine holding an Advanced Diploma of Traditional Chinese Medicine and am registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia (CMBA). I am an accredited member of the AACMA.

Dr. Laelia Douglas-Brown (TCM)

I am a Dr of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncturist with a special interest in women’s health, fertility & pregnancy, anxiety & stress.

I grew up around natural remedies, but experiencing Acupuncture sparked a curiosity in wanting to learn more about the body as a complete system, and how to feel supported when overloaded, depleted, and overworked. After graduating from the University of Technology with a Bachelor of Health Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine, I chose to extend my learning with a placement in one of China’s largest learning hospitals in Cheng Du, observing the effectiveness of integrating Western and Eastern medicine.

Back home, I ensure my learning is maximised with regular seminars, webinars, workshops and podcasts. I have done additional training in musculoskeletal issues, fertility & uses an integrative approach using the ‘fertile life’ method, pregnancy and postpartum support, women’s health; including cycle regulation and pain management, hormone balancing, or managing conditions such as endometriosis and PCOS, and love to support people’s baseline’s throughout times of stress, anxiety, headaches, tension, sleep or gut issues.

Outside of the clinic room, I spend my time rock-climbing & coaching, creating, tea-drinking, and have a healthy indoor plant obsession.

Dr Lucy Heller (TCM)

Chinese Medicine Practitioner and Acupuncturist

I was introduced to Chinese Medicine many years ago to treat gut issues that I’d acquired from living overseas. I was so amazed by how acupuncture improved my own health that I eventually decided to change careers and study Chinese Medicine at the Southern School of Natural Therapies in Melbourne.

I love supporting clients with their health journey, and witnessing a transformation beyond just their physical symptoms and extending to their lifestyle.

I am especially interested in working with people on their fertility journey including natural fertility and IVF, and I love supporting same-sex couples and single people.

I am also passionate about working with digestive health and women’s health conditions such as endometriosis, PCOS, painful periods, irregular menstrual cycles.

I have undertaken further study in treating fertility and I am also trained in distal acupuncture techniques (Dr Tan method) for working with pain and musculoskeletal conditions; and Five Element acupuncture for working with psycho-emotional conditions.

I am currently studying a Masters in Reproductive Medicine (UNSW), and in my spare time I love taking my dog Indi to beach and learning to surf.

I hold a Bachelor of Health Science (Southern School of Natural Therapies) and I am a registered member of The Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency (AHPRA) and The Australian Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association (AACMA).
